Torque for a harmonious gait
September 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
Design Pro Technology has created the first ankle joint prosthesis, D-Ankle that actively moves the foot with a motor when walking, and holds the foot in an anatomically natural position during the course of each step. The integrated drive ensures that the control signals are converted into the appropriate movement. At its heart is a brushless motor from Faulhaber.

DC microdrives bring dynamics into handling
September 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
The swivelling-rotary modules from the kinematics specialist, Jung Antriebstechnikbased are ideal for the highly dynamic rotation of large, high-inertia workpieces and eccentric grippers, and also for use in screwing and coiling technology. The drives are the heart of this modular automation system, and the requirements placed on them are very high. Brushless DC-motors from Faulhaber meet this need.

Perfect balance for every race
September 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
It goes without saying that success in Formula 1 requires a top driver. However, their chance of achieving a place on the podium depends on the car, which in turn depends on three essential factors: engine, tyres and aerodynamics. To find the optimum balance, the racing teams test models of their bolides in the wind tunnel. At Sauber, the adjustable components are moved on the model and in the test chamber using FAULHABER motors.

At least 60 million strokes
September 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
Designing and constructing compact automation systems is one of the core activities of the Austrian machine manufacturer, STIWA. Its modular LTM-CI system has been optimised for small parts assembly. Linear and rotating micromotors from Faulhaber perform key tasks in these systems.

The world’s greatest model railway
June 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Editor's Choice, Horne Technologies
Located in Hamburg’s traditional warehouse district, Speicherstadt features the largest model railway in the world, and is one of the most exciting tourist attractions in Germany.

Ocean-floor seismometer
March 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
Geophysicists depend on seismometers to monitor earthquakes generated by the motion of tectonic plates. In order to function, the instruments need to be levelled prior to operation. To achieve this, Canadian seismic specialist, Nanometrics combines sophisticated gimbals and microprocessors with ultra-reliable, efficient stepper motors from Faulhaber.

Time follows function
January 2024, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
What would a mechanical watch look like if it was reimagined and redeveloped from the bottom up? Master watchmaker Benoît Mintiens asked himself this question. He came up with a unique mechanism in the world of mechanical timepieces, a wristwatch that ‘sleeps’ when you take it off and wakes up when you put it back on, setting the correct time automatically.

Just the right amount of fertiliser
March 2023, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
Plants need nitrogen. Unfortunately, they can only absorb this element in the form of soluble nitrate compounds. Excess nitrogen fertilisers can thus easily find their way into the groundwater where ... |
Intelligent modular system for quick solutions
January 2023, Motion Control & Drives, Horne Technologies
Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, the pharmaceutical industry has been under pressure to realise the highest possible levels of automation. This requires a number of new analysis and testing ... |
